Welcome to the home of the Iggy Iguana Rescue & Bird Sanctuary (IIRBS)

Iggy Iguana Rescue & Bird Sanctuary is a non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and shelter of iguanas & birds of all sizes. We do not only handle just iguanas and birds, but amphibians, other reptiles, and many types of other exotic animals. We are located in northern Missouri around an hour from the Iowa border. We house abandoned, rescued, and surrendered animals. We rehabilitate the animals that need it and will adopt them out when they are ready, if at all possible. We provide both temporary care for those that are tame and healthy and longer term care for those who will need extensive medical treatment or taming. We also provide a permanent sanctuary to birds and other older animals that need a place to “retire” either after being a breeder or just having a long life elsewhere. We do not breed the rescue animals in our care and will not adopt any animal out into a home where it will be used as a breeder.

If you feel you would make a good home please feel free to contact us with any questions. We do not charge an adoption fee for the animals we adopt out. The first step is to fill out an adoption application which we will keep on file for up to six months if we do not have in the animal you want to adopt. Before placing an animal in a new home we do have adoption procedures which must be followed. We will not adopt out any animal to a person who has not either owned this type animal before, worked with this type animal before or is willing to take the time to learn about this animal. This must be done before bringing it into their home and they must show us that they know about the animal they are adopting.

If you have an animal you can no longer care for please contact us on the surrenders page so we can arrange to have the animal dropped off to us or picked up. We would rather you notify us ahead of time if you need to surrender an animal instead of just showing up on our doorstep. We try not to turn away any animal but we have to make sure we have the room and ability to care for it correctly so as not to make a bad situation even worse.
